I am Professor of History and Robert S. French Professor of American Studies Emeritus at Lawrence University. I received a B.A. from New York University, a J.D. from Columbia University Law School and a Ph.D. in History from Princeton University. My books include "The Strike That Changed New York: Blacks, Whites, and the Ocean Hill-Brownsville Crisis," "Bayard Rustin: American Dreamer," "City of Dreams: Dodger Stadium and the Birth of Modern Los Angeles," "The Routledge History of the 20th Century United States" (co-editor), and "Wrecked: The Edmund Fitzgerald and the Sinking of the American Economy" (with Thomas Nelson).
