Marcus Chatfield completed his PhD in History and his MSc in the Family, Youth and Community Sciences at the University of Florida, where he works as Undergraduate Research Coordinator and lecturer for Beyond120. Research interests include theories and histories of institutionalized persuasion, totalistic teen treatment, "brainwashing," and America's private-pay youth correctional systems known as the "troubled teen industry." His current book project on the history of reeducation explains how the diffusion of guided group interaction programs after World War II influenced and enabled America's autocratic therapeutic communities and contributed to a "two-tiered" juvenile justice system.
